Ricoh South Africa presented innovative solutions to help businesses be more competitive, respond better and faster to market changes and have happier customers at its Freedom to Operate event which took place at Montecasino on 13 August.

Recent research shows that workers spend an average of seven hours a week searching for information they need to do their job. That’s almost a full day. Ricoh wanted attendees to imagine what it could do for their businesses if people were productive for an additional seven hours a week. The interactive event allowed business owners to speak to Ricoh staff to identify, address and rectify their major business challenges.

The event featured three zones and covered a wide number of key themes including: ‘Optimising your mobile workforce’, ‘Speeding the flow of business critical information’, ‘Making your operations more effective and efficient’, ‘Improving sustainability’ and ‘An overview of critical trends in the enterprise’.

One of the solutions addressed was Clickable Paper. ‘Clickable Paper provides immediate one-touch access to up to six different online resources such as video or multimedia, websites, e-commerce portals and social networks and that makes it highly attractive to businesses looking for ways to add value to printed pages,’ said Vaughan Patterson, sales manager for the production printing business group at Ricoh SA.

Clickable Paper is an interactive print solution that bridges the online and offline worlds and is available for print services providers, agencies, publishers, brand owners and other organisations to make paper-based communications interactive. Clickable Paper delivers far-reaching value to readers by providing easy access to digital rich media via a smartphone or tablet. Its functionality can be critical to developing an effective interactive print campaign that drives readers to take action or seek additional information, and enables publishers and advertisers to track those activities.

It is is based on Ricoh Visual Search image recognition technology, one of a number of innovative technologies that Ricoh continues to develop and bring to market. Clickable Paper is more secure than QR codes and permits printed materials to be repurposed without marking, editing or reformatting the source documents. Hotspots are used to link to rich media from related authored content, user contributed social information or calls to action such as tweets, maps, calls and e-mails.

Other solutions showcased include Managed Document Services, Ricoh’s range of projectors, printers and multifunction devices.
