BOBST recently held its BOBST Vacuum Metallising and Coating Innovations seminar in Jakarta. Participants learnt about the latest innovations and trends in vacuum metallising and atmospheric wet coatings for the production of functional films.

This innovative format again took advantage of the synergies of the BOBST group to bring together vacuum metallising and coating process experts under one roof to impart their vast knowledge.

Also new for the Indonesia edition of the seminar was the introduction of presentations from partner companies including Kennametal who discussed how to slow down the surface deterioration of evaporator boats and Michelman, which presented functional coating solutions and market trends in the area of sustainability. Sustainability is a key topic at the moment in the packaging industry and BOBST also dedicated a presentation to this issue speaking about the BOBST Solution for a 100% barrier full PE laminate.

Speakers from BOBST vacuum metallising and coating divisions presented throughout the day the latest added value innovations for functional films including the BOBST Integrated AlOx Conversion Solution, which brings together BOBST know-how in the areas of vacuum metallisation and coating to provide an integrated solution whereby an off-line topcoat is applied to protect the AlOx clear coating during the conversion process to prevent loss of barrier. The AluBond process, which greatly improves metal adhesion on all substrates and barrier on BOPP and CPP films was presented, along with the K5 EXPERT, the vacuum metallising platform for both the AlOx production and AluBond processes.

In the area of atmospheric wet coatings, the extensive coating machine portfolio was presented along with the latest developments in barrier coatings and how the BOBST coating platforms can meet customer requirements due to deep process knowledge and the synergies between BOBST product lines.

Commenting on the seminar, Steve Carey, managing director, Bobst Manchester said, ‘The second BOBST Vacuum Metallising and Coating Innovations Seminar again demonstrated that we are committed to developing processes to help our customers meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the industry in terms of metal adhesion, barrier and of course sustainability. We are very pleased with the overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees and would like to thank everyone who attended.’
