Tecnau and Heidelberg USA Unveiling Finishing Line

Tecnau’s Unwinder u50 is part of the recently launched Revolution 50 roll-to-roll system, running roll paper widths up to 57.15cm (22.5”) and roll paper weights from 40–350gsm.

The company and Heidelberg USA will together unveil a continuous web direct mail finishing line at Printing United 2023 in Atlanta, from October 18–20.

Tecnau’s Unwinder u50, Cutter c52 and Transport t50s bridge will feed sheets from preprinted rolls to the Heidelberg Stahlfolder TH 66 Hybrid. Customers can benefit from the confidence instilled in choosing a pairing of two market leaders in their respective finishing segments. The resulting solution produces folded mail pieces at up to 200 metres per minute (656 feet per minute), offline or inline with high-speed digital inkjet presses.

The double-cutting Cutter c52 includes a number of unique features: retractable cut section for easy jam clearance and blade changes in half the time of competitive systems; the most user-friendly graphic user interface for quicker learning; and external adjustments to allow operators to adjust-while-running, supporting quicker job changeovers.

The just-launched Transport t50s feeds sheets to third-party devices with a minimum footprint. Alternatively, Tecnau’s Single Sheet Bypass Conveyor supports flexible operation, outputting stacks to a conveyor or sheets to third-party devices.

The Heidelberg Stahlfolder TH 66 Hybrid features the versatility of the hybrid feeder coupled with the option to pile feed into a proven, robust automated folding solution from Stahl.

Tecnau’s partnership with Pasquariello Graphics was instrumental in the development and support of this joint solution with Heidelberg.

Tecnau will rely on the power of other partnerships at PRINTING United Expo in a pair of first-time exhibitions. Tecnau is pairing its Stack 1212 cut/stack line for B2/B2+ sheets with the Kompac Phoenix 20 S Coater with pallet feeder. Tecnau is also exhibiting the Stack 5251L continuous web cut/stack line with 76.2cm (30”) stacking capability.

In an example of Tecnau’s market leading portfolio of production finishing solutions for sheet-fed presses, Kompac’s Phoenix 20 S coater flood coats and feeds B2+ sheets to Tecnau’s Stack 1212 cut and stack system. In this demonstration, the 1212 cross cuts, removes gutters and side trims, and presents finished, coated postcards stacked on the exit conveyor, allowing users to coat and cut in a single pass with no substrate manual handling. The line supports up to 21-up impositions, and paper weights up to 350gsm, while running at speeds up to 6000 input sheets per hour. Use Stack 1212 to cut postcards, letters, books, brochures, and calendars down to size.

The joint Kompac/Tecnau line features: a small footprint, consumes much less space than competitive offerings; offline configuration, depending on the application environment, users may be able to support coating, cutting and trimming output from multiple digital and offset presses; and economical operation as the simple, intuitive operation eliminates manual processes.

Tecnau’s Stack 5251L offers an additional possibility for cutting and stacking output from high-speed continuous web inkjet presses. Again featuring the double-cutting Cutter c52, the Revolution 50 Stack 5251L accommodates the broad range of papers and heavy ink coverages characteristic of the demanding graphic arts applications migrating to inkjet print as enabled by the emerging generation of high-speed inkjet presses.

In addition to Cutter c52 features mentioned above, the Revolution 50 Stack 5251L includes other unique features: minimal footprint compared to competitive systems, to better fit in tight spaces; dynamic web aligner for a smooth, stable web flow and reliable handling; and adjustable decurler to aid in the handling of challenging heavy and light papers.

The system’s Stacker s51L supports a broad range of applications and media up to a 76.2cm (30”) maximum cut length. Stack 5251L also features next generation controls for compatibility with the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT). The available Tecnau Connect IoT system includes a user dashboard to aid in operational analysis and onboard diagnostics to help keep the system up and running. Options are available for remote monitoring and diagnostics, automatic software updates and preventive maintenance aids.

Jeff Kewin, Tecnau president of Americas and Asia/Pacific, commented, ‘Tecnau is excited to bring users leading-edge, fully integrated solutions that allow them to offer capabilities not achievable with any one finishing hardware vendor. These offerings are another example of Tecnau acting on our Empowering Digital Print tagline. The Heidelberg and Kompac relationships exhibited at PRINTING United build on the heritage of our established partnerships with leading providers such as CTP Solutions, IBIS Bindery Systems, and CP Bourg. And of course, we’ve long valued and relied upon our partnerships with digital print providers like Canon, HP, Ricoh, Screen, Xeikon and Xerox and others, to best serve the digital print marketplace.’
