Sihl Introduces New PE Film Portfolio

Sihl has announced a solution for print-on-demand printing on polyethylene (PE) labels. By expanding the facestock portfolio to include PE base films with an aqueous (AQ) inkjet coating, Sihl offers maximum flexibility and opens up new, future-proof possibilities for the label industry.

The new PE films are characterised by their exceptional adaptability (‘conformable’). They mould to curved surfaces and guarantee a crease-free result, enabling perfect adaptation to any contour. Even when containers are deformed (‘squeezable’), the label follows every movement without creasing when the container is squeezed. Thanks to their low rigidity, these films are ideal for small labels on containers with a small diameter, clearly outperforming the properties of conventional BOPP or PET.

The portfolio offers the right solution for every application and brings aqueous inkjet printing to PE films for the first time. It includes four specialised coatings:

– IHG1 Gloss Coating: Offers excellent print quality for maximum product appeal.
– IG1 Satin Coating: Ensures excellent print quality in an elegant satin finish.
– ZM1 Matt BS5609: Is water- and chemical-resistant, making it ideal for demanding outdoor applications.
– IM1 Matt Universal: The perfect all-rounder for a wide variety of indoor applications.

With the new product line, Sihl supports the label industry in complying with the strict EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) in the field of mono-materials. The combination of a PE label on a PE container and print-on-demand (P.O.D.) inkjet technology makes this portfolio a particularly sustainable and future-proof solution for manufacturers and brands.
