Altron Document Solutions’ held its Johannesburg launch of the new Xerox Proficio PX500 and PX300 production presses at the Westcliff in October. The Xerox®️ Proficio PX500 Production Press features advanced imaging, media handling and built-in automation that elevate quality, accelerate turnarounds and drive profitability. The PX300 is built for nimble operations like small print shops, in-plants and franchises whose short run digital jobs are different each day. It can print business cards, mailers with envelopes, finished brochures and banners. It also enables scanning to and from USBs.
Present during the event were the representatives from the company’s partners, which include Epson, Duplo, Riso and SCREEN.

Altron Document Solutions’ Yolanden Moodley started off the proceedings, ‘How can we grow our business? How can we expand our business? How are we able to now evolve in terms of customer needs that have changed? Because those customer needs are changing every day, and we want to be at the forefront, to make sure that we’re serving them.
‘So how does Proficio respond?,’ he asked, ‘Proficio stands for and means to advance, to accomplish, to be profitable, and to succeed.’

Altron Document Solution’s head of production Keith Knott, added, ‘Print is not dead. Print is migrating. Print is growing. So how can we make your workflow in your print shop easier? How can we automate a lot of the things that are currently manual?’
‘We are also the authorised exclusive distributor of Duplo in the country. Why did we do that? Because if you put ink or toner on a piece of paper and you want to sell that, what’s the worth of that piece of paper? It’s a piece of paper and ink. That’s it. Nothing else. As soon as you start finishing it off, as soon as you do something with that piece of paper, put it into a booklet, into a bound book, embellish it, it starts becoming worth that much more. And that’s why we brought in Duplo. We knew that we had to do something to automate the process.’
‘We started working closely with Epson and their wide format printers over the last two years. But we are also the exclusive distributor of the Epson SurePress label printer in South Africa. So again, we look at something else in the printing industry, something that you as our customers can take and actually build your business up as well through high quality wide format and high quality label printers.
‘Over the last eight or nine years, we’ve been working very closely with Riso. I thought NCR is dead. But it’s not. It’s growing. There’s a lot of NCR booklets being printed out there. Education in South Africa is vital. It’s so important, and that’s also why we brought in those machines, because not only can we produce all those short-run NCRs that the customer want, but we can also do educational booklets and training material at a much cheaper price.
‘And then naturally, the stars of today, the two Proficios, the eight-page per minute 300 machine, and the one hundred page per minute 500 machine.’

The afternoon continued with technicians from each respective brand conducting live demonstrations on their equipment, while providing technical advice to present customers.
Alton Document Solutions’ Marco Engelbrecht, product manager described each partnership, as ‘amazing, and the best of breed in the market. We have great success with all our products, covering all our vertical markets, such as education, signage, CAD printing, creative finishing or finishing automation.’
