Manroland Goss’s highly automated COLORMAN e:line presses combine outstanding print quality with maximum efficiency and enable cost-effective production for both large print runs and smaller contract print jobs. Hankyung Media Group, the publisher of the renowned The Korea Economic Daily, has reached another milestone in its comprehensive newspaper printing project with the successful test runs of its two new COLORMAN e:line printing presses.

The new production facility impressed during a formal ceremony attended by Kim Jung-Ho, President and CEO of Hankyung Media Group, with its excellent print quality, high production speed, and advanced automation. The new printing plant sets the standard for innovation and efficiency, reinforcing Hankyung Media Group’s leadership position in the South Korean newspaper industry.

The web offset printing presses set new benchmarks for print quality and production speed in South Korea. With this investment, Hankyung Media Group sends a strong signal for the future viability of South Korea ́s newspaper market.

Hankyung Media Group has built a state-of-the-art printing facility on a 11,500sqm plot at its new production site in the Bupyeong National Industrial Complex in Incheon, west of Seoul. The centrepiece of this facility consists of two COLORMAN e:line printing systems from manroland Goss, each equipped with six printing units, reel splicers, and folding units, as well as a comprehensive automation package.

Thanks to flexible configuration options, the facility can produce up to 380,000 copies per hour with 24 pages or 190,000 copies per hour with 48 pages in colour – a unique feature within the South Korean media industry.

This investment reflects Hankyung Media Group’s long-term strategic focus on innovation, competitiveness, and future-proof newspaper production. The importance of this step is further underscored by the presence of the top management of the company, who, as part of the celebrations for the 129th anniversary of the Korean News- paper Day, officially inaugurated the test operation of the new printing press.

‘The successful test runs confirm that we have taken the right path with this new installation,’ said Chul-Soo Kim, Executive Director of Hankyung Media Group. ‘With the two COLORMAN e:line systems, we are setting a new standard and strengthening our position as South Korea’s leading contract printing company.’

The successful installation of the COLORMAN e:line marks a new era for newspaper production in South Korea. ‘With cutting-edge automation, exceptional print quality, and maximum efficiency, this project not only strengthens Hankyung Media Group’s leadership position, but also highlights the enduring potential of print media in the digital age,’ emphasised Franz Kriechbaum, CEO of manroland Goss.
