Hemel Hempstead’s printing technologies manufacturer FFEI Ltd has been shortlisted for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Manufacturing Excellence 2012 awards. Manufacturing Excellence assessors and moderators visited the FFEI plant on 24 September. FFEI has been shortlisted for the Logistics and Operational Efficiency; Business Development and Change Management and Financial Management awards.

John Mortimer, FFEI’s Operations Director said, We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this year’s awards. Having invested heavily in our capabilities in recent years it will be a pleasure for the team to demonstrate our achievements to the assessors.

Philippa Oldham, Head of Manufacturing at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said, FFEI is a great business that is helping to keep manufacturing at the heart of Hemel Hempstead’s economy. The Manufacturing Excellence programme is not just about celebrating manufacturing success around the country, but about providing practical advice for businesses to help them improve and excel even further.

Manufacturing Excellence, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, is the most successful and long established manufacturing support programme in the UK, and the only one that provides a detailed benchmarking and assessment process to help improve manufacturing businesses.

As part of the Manufacturing Excellence programme, companies are asked to conduct an in-depth self-assessment and those who complete one or more of the eight parts receive a free, bespoke and confidential benchmark report.

The best companies in each module receive a free visit from a team of expert assessors who verify the audit responses and offer practical advice and suggestions for the business. The winning companies in each category will receive an award at the Manufacturing Excellence Award Ceremony at the Dorchester in London on 27 November.

Manufacturing Excellence 2012 is run in partnership with The ERA Foundation, Lombard and WMG; sponsored by Arup and supported by the CBI.
