Deadline To Submit Waste Management Plan Is Fast Approaching

Packaging SA is developing an Industry Waste Management Plan (IndWMP) in line with the Minister of Environmental Affairs Section 28 of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (59/2008); which requires that the paper and packaging, electronical and electronic and lighting industries prepare and submit industry waste management plans to the Minister for approval as detailed in Government Gazette No.1353 on 6 December 2017.

Packaging SA intends to submit Waste Management Plans for the whole industry. Members are called upon to register with respective Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) who are involved in the preparation of these plans.

Register with the relevant PROs listed below:

If you are a company that prints on or converts paper and paper board products, visit
Pamsa/Prasa (Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa)
www.thepaperstory.co.za and www.recyclepaper.co.za.

If you are a company that prints on plastic substrates (Polyethylene terephthalate -PET), visit PETCO
 – www.petco.co.za/PETplan.

If you are printing on low-density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP)
Polyco (Polyolefin material) , visit www.polyco.co.za.

If you are a company printing on polystyrene substrates — expanded polystyrene (EPS) and high impact polystyrene (HIPS), visit the Polystyrene Association of South Africa – www.polystyrene.co.za.

If you are a company printing on glass bottles and glassware, contact The Glass Recycling Company – www.theglassrecyclingcompany.co.za.

If you are a company printing on metal, visit MetPac-SA  – www.metpacsa.org.za.

If you are a company printing on vinyl, South African Vinyls Association – www.savinyls.co.za.

The deadline is 6 September.

Did you register with DEA on 6 February 2018?

If you missed the registration with the Department of Environmental Affairs, you are required to do the following:

Write to the Minister requesting an extension with sufficient motivation.
