Zippy Labels in Johannesburg has acquired the HP Indigo WS4600 web-fed digital press from Kemtek.

Established 19 years ago, Zippy is a highly-successful family-owned self-adhesive label printing concern, servicing the FMCG, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, industrial and chemical and homecare packaging industries. The focus is on offering premium quality, consistent labels and, with more and more customers requiring just-in-time deliveries, the HP Indigo has slotted in perfectly, complementing an already impressive flexographic printing operation.

Co-owner Kevin Thomas said, ‘Our decision to introduce a digital department has taken some time, but I’m happy that we’ve chosen the right system and partner to fulfil our specific requirements. The WS4600 provides the perfect stepping stone towards broadening our printing capabilities and we’ve completed the full digital package by purchasing an Omega Digicon Lite finishing machine from A B Graphic International, an HP finishing partner, which is configured to our specifications. Furthermore, Kemtek is providing us with a perfect supply and service package that allows us to control our costing schedules right down to the last cent.’

Built upon the success of the HP Indigo WS4500, the WS4600 is designed for high-volume printing, with fully automated workflow from job submission to final product, and seamless job switching. The WS4600 handles various self-adhesive stocks and films up to 350µm and delivers four-colour printing at speeds up to 21m/min in Enhanced Productivity Mode.

Also supporting HP ElectroInk White and HP ElectroInk Invisible Red, it can be used to add anti-counterfeiting components like invisible barcodes and various other security features if required.

The Kemtek team and HP Indigo brand specialists ensured Zippy Labels’ system was installed and delivered with precision and care and Thomas and the team were provided with up-to-the-minute in-depth training and on-going support.

‘Overall, we’re delighted with the productivity we’re achieving on the WS4600 and the top-class print results, and so are our customers,’ said Thomas.
