Printing SA’s advocacy involves lobbying government directly on topics such as the Air Quality Act. The federation will host a webinar, explaining how printing will be regulated by the act, which is currently open for public comment.

The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) is engaging with Printing SA regarding the recently published notice for comment on 7 August 2020. The notice intends to regulate Printing Industry to be declared as Controlled Emitters in terms of Section 23 of Air Quality Act 2004. The deadline for comment was 7 September and Printing SA requested an extension to be able to solicit a comprehensive response. The department gave Printing SA an extension until 22 September 2020.

The proposed declaration of the printing industry in Section 23 places a requirement on the company to control emissions to atmosphere through capital investment in abatement technologies.

He has extensive experience of delivering air quality assessments for printing, oil and gas, petrochemical, power and mining developments, particularly within South Africa. He has over 23 years’ experience advising on environmental issues and assisting operators in achieving their development goals.  
 
Dr James has advised on air quality new developments seeking to access capital from reputable financing parties, and for the purposes of achieving governmental approvals. He has an international track record having advised on projects located in over 25 countries including South Africa, Libya, Egypt, Tanzania, Ghana, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. While much of his focus has been on the oil and gas industry, petrochemicals and energy, his experience covers a wide range of sectors such as transportation, food/beverage manufacture and major printing facilities.

In this portfolio, Olebogeng has lead programmes for development of the national ambient air quality standards for criteria pollutants, the minimum emission standards for listed activities and controlled emitters as well as the dust control regulations.
