Women Who Lead Panel Highlights Participation, Leadership And Continuous Learning

The ‘Women Who Lead’ panel at Printing SA’s 2026 Women in Print event on 7 August in Johannesburg focused on women’s participation in the printing industry, leadership, career development and the sector’s future.

Hosted by keynote speaker Christina E. Foxwell, the panel featured Ayanda Shabangu of Bidvest Paperplus, Charnia Yapp of Practical Publishing, Teresa Adinolfi of Redfern Labels and Alinah Fosi of Government Printing Works. The panellists discussed the importance of women participating actively in the industry, making their voices heard and recognising the value of their contributions. They also addressed some of the challenges women have historically faced in the sector and the importance of having the confidence to take up opportunities and leadership roles.

The discussion highlighted the need for continuous learning as the printing industry undergoes rapid digital transformation. Knowledge sharing and collaboration were identified as important for preparing professionals to adapt to changes in technology, business practices and customer requirements.

The panellists also emphasised the importance of taking ownership of career development. Self development, collaboration and learning from others were highlighted as ways for women to strengthen their skills and progress professionally.

Mentorship was identified as another important element in developing future industry leaders. Connecting experienced professionals with women looking to advance their careers can support knowledge transfer, build confidence and strengthen professional networks.

The panel also considered the wider impact of supporting women in the printing sector. Greater participation and stronger leadership can contribute to the growth of businesses and the industry while creating opportunities for broader social and economic impact.

The ‘Women Who Lead’ panel formed part of the fifth annual Women in Print event, which brought together women from the printing, packaging, signage and visual communications sectors for professional development, networking and industry engagement.
