The first Graphics, Print and Sign (GPS) pop-up activation, which took place at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Johannesburg from 29 October–1 November featured industry experts who demonstrated a range of products. The activation was sponsored by Roland and Africa Print was a media partner of GPS.
Visitors could see the latest digital printing, 3D printing, labelling solutions, laser marking solutions and more. ‘This was a new concept that we had scheduled for earlier in the year. The idea of hosting a pop-up activation in a busy shopping centre was developed to expose our clients to new visitors and entrepreneurs looking for affordable business start-up opportunities,’ said Charnia Yapp, event organiser at Africa Print, Practical Publishing.
‘It was busy on Friday. Saturday was good, and Sunday was the best day, because there were more people from the industry,’ said Eric Philpott, 3D Fusion Machines.
Naveen Rajcomar, sales consultant at Chemosol, mentioned that the company made sales, and had many people looking at their products and enquiring about them. He also said the sublimation machines were popular.
‘Sunday was successful – I had a lot of customers come through who are familiar with Roland. About 25% of the people I saw have printing companies, while 75% were looking to start a side-line job for extra income,’ said Clinton Frankel, Tshwane Digital Solutions/Roland.
Mashudu Serovha, sales representative for the Brother ScanNcut, said the activation went well, and gained momentum each day with many people visiting. He also mentioned getting many leads and gaining exposure for the product.
