Surya Global Flexifilms (SGF) is one of India’s largest BOPP producers and the addition of a new BOBST K5 3650mm with AlOx capability will allow them to produce sustainable clear coated high barrier BOPP with the unique BOBST AlOx GEN II technology. The new machine will be installed in their factory at the end of 2026 and will sit alongside their three other BOBST metallisers further cementing the relationship between the two companies.
The wider width of 3650mm complements their three existing machines at 2900mm, one of which incorporates the BOBST AluBond® process which enhances oxygen and water barrier levels on BOPP film. The existing machines are running well and Dharmendra Senger, Vice President Project & Operations, Siddhant Singh, General Manager Mech and Utilities, and Vinay Arora, General Manager E&I from SGF are satisfied with BOBST’s state-of-the-art technology and the performance of the existing vacuum metallisers.
BOBST are experts in the wide web market and the EXPERT K5 3650mm is designed to run large diameters at high speeds. The BOBST renowned winding mechanism produces virtually wrinkle-free film and the EXPERT is the highest productivity metalliser in the world for the packaging industry with the lowest production costs available in the market.
BOBST AlOx GEN II builds on the original BOBST AlOx process which has been established in the market for many years for the production of high barrier, transparent PET films. In response to the sustainability trend in the flexible packaging industry, AlOx GEN II was developed for the production of high barrier, transparent BOPP films. In addition to the high levels of oxygen and water barrier at a low optical density that the solution provides, film produced using the process is transparent straight off the machine.
Commenting on the investment, Shekhar Agarwal, Managing Director at Surya Global Flexifilms said, ‘We purchased our first three machines from BOBST when we decided to start producing metallized film in-house due to their reputation in the market. After the successful running of these machines for the last three years, we needed to increase our capacity further and produce our own AlOx coated films; there was no question we would return to BOBST for this fourth machine.’
