Burlington Dataprint and Shumani Mills printed and distributed nine European newspaper titles during the FIFA World Cup to the soccer players. The project started on the 11 June and ran until the 12 July 2010 during the World Championships supplying the teams with the latest news from home.
Burlington Dataprint and Shumani Mills received the data from local newspapers in Holland, Spain, France and Switzerland by midnight each day and would have the newspapers printed and distributed by 7am the following morning. The total amount of newspapers that Burlington Dataprint printed amounted to 5 975 copies.
Nine different newspapers were printed on the Xerox iGen3 and Xerox DocuColours and on 80g bond paper in Dutch, Spanish, French and Swiss and distributed to Minuteman Palaborwa, Ivyline in Potchefstroom, and Project Print in Durban and Blitzdruk in Knysna through Xerox print partners of Burlington Dataprint. Burlington Dataprint handled the printing and distribution in Gauteng, while Shumani Mills handled the printing and distribution in the Western Cape.
Erika Hearnshaw, digital sales and marketing manager at Burlington Dataprint said, 'It was an exciting project to work on with very tight deadlines. It worked out well with the Dutch and Spanish staying in the tournament until the end, but a bit short lived for the French and Swiss!’ The total amount of newspapers that Burlington Dataprint printed amounted to 5 975 copies.
Hearnshaw also said that South Africa has a different pricing matrix for digital printing, which is appealing to companies in the US and Europe. As a result, a lot of international work is coming into South Africa. |
